Research

KU Anthropological Genetics Research Laboratories

Beginning with the construction of a state-of-the-art aDNA lab in 2016, our facilities now include a contemporary DNA laboratory, and multiple teaching laboratories for molecular methods and traditional osteological and paleoanthropological classes.  Our research foci are on human and non-human population histories and paleoecological reconstruction from sedimentary DNA.  We prioritize ethical principles and cultural sensitivity in working in close collaboration with all partners.

Neotropical Anthropology Laboratory

NAL is a faculty-directed research laboratory operating within the department, with KU graduate student researchers, KU staff collaborators, digital humanities & library personnel, inter-university collaborators, & international research affiliates. It is, in other words, structurally comparable to other departmental research entities that currently appear under the website’s Research menu, among them the KU Anthropological Genetics Research Laboratories. The absence of comparable representation for NAL does not reflect the laboratory’s standing, its research functions, or its institutional relationships, & it materially affects the lab’s visibility to prospective collaborators, graduate students, external partners, & funding agencies.
