Graduate programs

Graduate program options include a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Anthropology and Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Anthropology. Each degree program trains students across a broad range of topics, with special emphasis placed on the subdisciplines of:

  • Archaeology
  • Biological anthropology
  • Sociocultural anthropology

While our world-class programs have particular strengths in the Americas, research opportunities are available in many regions of the world including Latin America, United States, Oceania, East and Southeast Asia, and Africa. Our program also offers opportunities to work in field schools abroad. Both the master's and the doctoral programs are tailored to the needs of individual students within each subdiscipline and stress intensive one-on-one discussions between students and their advisors.

The Department of Anthropology also accepts graduate, non-degree seeking applicants

Students should speak with an academic advisor if they have questions about any of the program options, including graduate admissions, or courses.

Funding is available to master's students, and we are committed to fully funding all doctoral students for at least four years. Learn more about funding for Anthropology graduate students.
